A beautiful scenic village in Nubra valley and famous for it’s sulphur hot springs, Panamik is a village that is nestled very close to the Siachen Glacier, the highest battle field in the world. The hot water springs of Panama are enriched with high amount of sulphur which helps in curing various health ailments.
The village of Panama is also famous for it’s Kashmiri and and Tibetan artifacts.The village of Panamik is also the base for the trek to Ensa monastery; a 250 years old Gompa.
PLACES TO VISIT/ AROUND THE STAY-
Located just after the Sumoor Samthaling Monastery and just before Panamik Hot Springs, we have to trek/hike for 15 minutes to reach YARAB TSO lake, the views throughout the journey are absolutely stunning, especially the 360* views from the mountain and close to the lake was extraordinary.
Remote 600-year-old Ensa Monastery, just 35km north of Sumur on the west bank of the Nubra, feels like it's close to heaven. The monastery itself is small and home to only one monk, but a lovely kora path takes you past dozens of white chortens and a hermitage retreat to offer fabulous valley views. It's well worth the trip.
This is an old monastery, situated in the middle of the Nubra Valley, on its western side, nearly 150 m above the river, opposite to Panimik. One monk is living there and he likes it to open the small temple for pilgrims and other visitors. It´s fascinating to see very old, some dark paintings on the walls.

Churon House is simple Ladakhi home built with love by a local family. The best part of this house that it has 24 hr running sulphur hot water. So you take medicinal showers every day. All the rooms have attached bathroom and warm quilts to keep that shivering away during night as it does gets cold by September.
One can lot of activity in Panamik from visiting local Gomaps to exploring nearby treks.Panamik is a great place to buy Kashmiri carpet, Pashmina shawls and woolen socks. Horticulture products like apricots,walnuts,apples and almonds are also worth a buy. Shops in the market also stock Kashmiri and Tibetan artefacts which make for good souvenirs.
The home is near to the sulphur water spring water which is therapeutic for joints, A special amchi needs to guide you while you get the water treatment by the nearby monastery.

Organic farming and open cooking is speciality at Churons house. You can yourself indulge in some farming activity and local cuisine, and why not; when the sun is warm and the water is sulphuric what else good can you think while listening to old country music. Simple home cooked Ladakhi food is served here. From tradition firewood Dal Chawal to Mom Mok. Please don’t expect any fancy food as this is not being served here.

Experience Panamik as it’s the northern most part of the country till which foreign travelers are permitted to travel in India. The hot water spring is another comforting experience that makes your stay even more comforting and relaxing. Experience the medicinal properties that can cure rheumatism and other ailments completely at the comfort of this homestay.
Ensa monastery is three to four hour trek from a path that leads to the Gompa. Cross a wooden bridge over the Nubra river and the view of dense poplar trees.
Do not waste your money buying pashmina shawls and dry fruits in towns, Panamik is the perfect place to shop from the very sources of these items making the entire experience very first hand and authentic.

Few kms ahead from Khalsar the road bifurcates into two, road on the left leads to Diskit while the road on the right goes to Panamik.
BY AIR:
Nubra Valley closest airport is situated at Leh and is known as Bakula Rimpoche Airport. It is also one of the highest commercial airports in the world. From Leh, one has to take a cab, tempo traveller or a state run bus to Nubra Valley.
BY RAIL:
The nearest railhead to Nubra Valley would be at Jammu Tawi, which is around 750 kms away. In order to reach Nubra by train, one has to first travel from Jammu to Leh and then from there to Nubra.
BY ROAD:
Leh City is well connected by road to Nubra Valley. One has to take the route via Khardung La, world’s highest motorable pass to reach Nubra.Leh City is well connected to Srinagar, Kargil, Manali and Delhi.

The host who had worked for Ladakh scouts after dealing with dry fruits for a very long time decided to convert to the cash economy after seeing more potential of earning money in the tourism sector.
The host now runs a place very near to the natural source of spring water and accommodates travelers in an attempt to learn about the outside world.
